On February 4, 2026, the thermal power plant project for Units 15-17 in Weda Bay reached a significant milestone. With the precise hoisting and placement of the first steel structure for Boiler 16, the unit officially commenced its main structural installation phase, laying a solid foundation for subsequent construction stages. As a vital local energy infrastructure project, the successful completion of this milestone demonstrates the project team’s efficient organizational coordination and robust engineering management capabilities.

The installation of the boiler steel structure is one of the core processes in power plant construction, where installation precision directly impacts the stability of the boiler body and the overall project schedule. To ensure the successful achievement of the first steel structure installation milestone, the project team implemented early planning and established a comprehensive support system across the entire supply chain:
-
On the supply chain side, proactive coordination with equipment manufacturers ensured the timely and quality delivery of steel structure components.
-
On the on-site implementation side, systematic advancement through key stages—including foundation handover, installation plan review, comprehensive technical briefings for all personnel, implementation of safety control measures, and the execution of quality acceptance standards—systematically addressed operational challenges. This created safe, precise, and efficient conditions for the steel structure installation operations.

The successful first steel structure installation not only proves the solid foundation established during the preparation phase but also paves the way for the smooth progression of subsequent core processes, including boiler body installation and heat transfer surface assembly welding. Currently, Units 15 and 16 are simultaneously advancing their steel structure installations, while Unit 17 is accelerating efforts on civil engineering works. The project site now demonstrates a construction momentum where all three units are advancing in parallel with seamless coordination. All personnel involved will continue to adhere to high standards and strict requirements, strengthen process control, and maintain rigorous oversight of safety and quality to ensure the high-quality completion of the project. These coordinated efforts aim to achieve the project’s target commissioning date.
